Official postcrossing card

View on Windsor castle from river Thames. From Martin.

Text on the postcard says: Founded by William the Conqueror though the origins of the current Castle date from the reign of Henry II. Windsor Castle is the largest continuously occupied Castle in the world and visitors are attracted by the magnificent splendour of St. Georges Chapel and the State Apartments. On 20th November 1992 a fire raged through the Castle consuming 1/5 of the building. Queen Elizabeth II refered to 1992 as her "Annus Horribilis". Restoration work was completed on the 50th wedding anniversary of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh. Prince Charles and Camilla were married at the Guildhall in Windsor on 9th April 2005 followed by a blessing in St Georges Chapel.
